It is with deep sadness we must tell you that actor Dean Sullivan passed away on 29th November 2023 peacefully following a short illness. Dean is best remembered as the longest serving cast member of Channel 4’s groundbreaking ‘Brookside’ playing the role of ‘Jimmy Corkhill’, making Dean a British Soap icon. To millions he was and very much still is remembered as ‘Jimmy’, to family and friends he was ‘Dino’. Dean’s family wants to thank Arrowe Park Hospital for their unwavering and consistent support. We ask that you respect their privacy in their time of grief.

Dean Sullivan is a superb leading actor from Liverpool with high quality drama and comedy skills. He is a 2 x British soap awards winner with many tv, stage and presenting credits to date. He has instant recognition to many for his 17 year portrayal of Jimmy Corkhill in ground breaking Channel 4 soap opera Brookside. He is an extremely versatile actor with credits in theatre, television, film and radio. His stage highlights to date include; playing Scullery in the North West premiere of Jim Cartwright’s ‘Road’ (Octagon Theatre, Bolton), a critically acclaimed North West theatre tour of one man monologue ‘Chip in the sugar’ by Alan Bennett and the world premiere of Stand Up! the Musical (with Lionel Blair, Darren Day and Billy Pearce) at the Floral Pavilion, New Brighton.

He has also had extensive experience in theatre directing and writing having run his own successful theatre production company and directing several shows for the National Trust.

Dean joined the cast of Brookside in February 1986 as regular Jimmy Corkhill and remained with the show until it was axed in November 2003. Dean’s character featured in many of the soaps most memorable moments and ratings-pulling storylines during that time. At it’s peak the show pulled in just under 9 million viewers on a regular basis. Dean played many demanding storylines over the years to include storylines around mental health, breakdowns, robbery, hit and run drug driving resulting in death, drug addiction issues and many many more. At the British Soap Awards, Dean won the best on screen partnership award and a few years later, the special recognition award for his outstanding portrayal of a truly iconic character in British television history. He recently narrated a DVD of best moments in the show.

Other super TV roles for Dean have included lead guest parts in BBC’s Doctors, ITV’s The Royal and ITV’s Crime Stories .

Stage also includes many fine plays and musicals at top venues. He has also starred in many family pantomimes at No1 theatre venues in various roles.

Dean is also a fine presenter, he has presented 3 x TV series for ITV Granada to much acclaim in recent years as well as hosting his own daily 1 hour topical talk show on Radio City’s sister station Citytalk throughout the Merseyside region for many years.

Dean Sullivan is a BEd (Hons) graduate of Lancaster University and was a primary school teacher for six years before becoming an actor and then continued to work as a supply teacher between roles, before his role in Brookside became his full-time job. He enjoys gardening and spending time with his family in his spare time.
